Christos had a chat with Veronica Iapichino, the founder and owner of “Saporita” which was recently shortlisted as finalist in both “The Best Family Owned Restaurant” and “Best Italian Restaurant” categories in a national competition. They discussed about the differences of running your own business compared to working for others and the benefits of starting a business in Norwich.

What is “Saporita” and what does it mean?

“Saporita” in Italian means tasty. “Saporita” is a small family Italian restaurant, our main aim is to provide the authentic Italian experience with attention to detail in an affordable price. We didn’t want to create another posh Italian restaurant, but we wanted to distinguish ourselves by creating a warm place where you can relax and enjoy your food.

What are your main products and services?

The main products that we offer are pizzas, Paninis, focaccia, panzerotti, we also work as a delicatessen where you can buy Italian products such as biscuits meat and cheese.

When did you launch your business and why Norwich?

We started this business in the December of 2016. I chose Norwich because I was already living here, and I was working at a fish & chips shop. At some point I observed that a great number of people wanted to eat something quick and good simply because they didn’t have time, or they didn’t want to cook at home. When I was generating this idea, I also observed that there weren’t any shops that were selling pizza by the slice in the city centre. This is when I realised that there was a gap in the market, and I decided to launch this business. I am very happy that I decided to launch my business here because the people are willing to try, and they supported this attempt. In addition, Norwich is relatively small and not as chaotic as other big cities, that way you have the chance to build personal relationships with your customers which is very important to me and it is a key part of the experience that we want to offer to them.
